AMAC Election Under Fire as Result Sheet Shows 1,219 Votes in Unit with 213 Accredited Voters

Independent National Electoral Commission Headquarters, Abuja
ABUJA, FCT — The credibility of the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections has come under intense scrutiny following the emergence of what appears to be a major discrepancy on an official polling unit result sheet.

Popular broadcast journalist Rufai Oseni raised the alarm over a specific polling unit result showing the All Progressives Congress (APC) scoring 1,219 votes, despite the unit recording only:
345 Registered Voters
213 Accredited Voters
213 Ballots Issued
211 Valid Votes

The figures were reportedly captured on Form EC8A, the official polling unit result sheet issued by INEC.

The Mathematical Discrepancy

According to the document cited during a live broadcast, the APC’s score was written as:
1,212 (or 1,219 in secondary tallies) — in figures
“One Hundred and Twenty-one” — in words
The contradiction between the numerical entry and the written words has fueled allegations of data manipulation.

If the figure of 1,219 were taken as accurate, it would exceed:
The number of accredited voters (213)
The total ballots issued (213)
Even the total registered voters (345)

Such a scenario would constitute clear over-voting under Nigeria’s electoral guidelines.

Oseni described the development as a “systemic failure,” questioning how such a result could pass through multiple collation stages without being flagged.

Wider Concerns from the AMAC Election
The controversy emerges as Christopher Maikalangu of the APC was declared winner of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election with 40,295 votes.

His main challenger, Moses Paul of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has declined to concede, citing alleged irregularities across several wards.

Additional incidents reported during the election include:
PU 065, Garki Geological Garden: Deployment of full INEC personnel to a unit reportedly having only one registered voter.
PU 001, Kabusa Primary School: Arrest of a woman allegedly found with multiple Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

IReV Disruptions: Observers reported technical issues with the INEC Result Viewing Portal during collation hours.

Civil Society Reaction

Election observers including:
Yiaga Africa and Public and Private Development Centre
have reportedly called for transparency and, where necessary, a forensic review of disputed results.

Observers argue that unexplained inconsistencies undermine public confidence and contribute to voter apathy.
INEC Yet to Issue Specific Clarification

As of the time of filing this report, INEC has not publicly addressed the specific polling unit figures highlighted during the broadcast. The commission has, however, generally described the FCT elections as peaceful.

Whether the disputed figures stem from clerical error, data entry mistakes, or something more serious remains to be officially clarified.

What Happens Next?

Under Nigeria’s Electoral Act, election results may be challenged at the Election Petition Tribunal within the stipulated legal timeframe.

Political observers say the AMAC outcome could face judicial review if the discrepancies are formally filed as part of a petition.
