…Dismisses claims of Northern resistance ahead of 2027 elections

…Maintains focus on long-term, immediate policy solutions

The Presidential aide on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has dismissed claims that Northern Nigeria is poised to oppose President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, insisting instead that the region is “extremely comfortable” with the current administration.

Bwala’s remarks came in response to former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, who had alleged that northern leaders felt marginalised and excluded from key federal initiatives under Tinubu’s government.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Tonight on Monday, August 11, Lawal claimed that prominent northern politicians had established a forum to address regional concerns and strategise for the 2027 polls, signalling potential resistance.

However, Bwala, speaking on the same platform on Wednesday, firmly rejected this narrative, stating, “Northern Nigeria is extremely comfortable with the governance approach of Mr President. Do you know why? He is solving the problems that are in the long term and the problems in the moment. You can see conscious efforts by the president through various policies.”

When asked whether the presidency was aware of Nigerians’ complaints about economic hardship, Bwala acknowledged that while challenges persist, “things are already getting better.”

He emphasised a distinction between genuine public grievances and politically motivated outcry by opposition actors, asserting that opposition parties were struggling to reconcile with the perceived successes of Tinubu’s administration.

“Opposition parties are being tortured by the results and performance of President Tinubu’s administration,” Bwala said.
