In what many are already describing as a strategic political move ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, alongside Dr. Yunusa Tanko, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV), and Segun Adebanjo, paid a courtesy visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta on Sunday.

Shortly after, the delegation also visited the new Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, where they were warmly received.
Obi, in a statement via his verified handle, said the meetings focused on the state of the nation and the need for unity, fairness, justice, and love among Nigerians.

“The meetings make me believe that the coming together of a competent team with capacity, compassion, and commitment will build a new Nigeria that is POssible,” Obi said.
Political Undertone Towards 2027

Analysts believe Obi’s Ibadan tour signals early alignments as he continues to consult with elder statesmen and traditional leaders. With the presence of GRV and Tanko—two influential figures in the Labour Party and the wider Obidient Movement—the visit may not be unconnected with the reshaping of political alliances for 2027.
Obasanjo, who openly backed Obi in the 2023 elections, remains a powerbroker whose blessings could influence South-West dynamics. Meanwhile, the Olubadan’s palace meeting strengthens Obi’s grassroots connection in Oyo State—a critical swing region.

As Nigerians debate the country’s political future, today’s visits have fueled speculations that Obi and his allies are gradually laying the groundwork for a formidable opposition front in 2027.
