Nigerian Worsening Insecurity Linked To 2015 Desperation To Remove Jonathan – Baba-Ahmed
Abuja, Nigeria — The 2023 Labour Party (LP) Vice-Presidential candidate, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has alleged that former President Muhammadu Buhari once threatened him and residents of Kaduna State with violence during the 2011 general elections.
Baba-Ahmed made the revelation on Tuesday while speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme focused on national issues. According to him, Buhari had declared at the time: “You [will all be] soaked in blood. Kaduna is my state. There was serious violence in Kaduna. Many houses were burnt.”
The former lawmaker, who contested for office in 2011, said the experience made him distance himself from the late former president. He further linked Nigeria’s worsening insecurity to what he described as the desperation of some political actors to unseat then-President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
Baba-Ahmed alleged that foreigners were brought in from neighboring countries to help influence the election, a move he claimed laid the foundation for the widespread insecurity that continues to trouble the nation today.
“The truth is that insecurity became a political weapon,” Baba-Ahmed said, insisting that the ruling party at the time institutionalized violence as part of its rise to power.
The Labour Party chieftain urged Nigerians to reflect on the origins of the current crisis, stressing that only a genuine commitment to democratic values and national unity can restore peace.
