PDP Disowns Wike’s Utterances, Vows He Will Not Hold Party Captive
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has distanced itself from recent comments made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, stressing that his remarks do not represent the official position of the opposition party.
Speaking on Channels Television on Tuesday night, the PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, declared that the party has completely dissociated itself from Wike’s statements and insisted that the minister cannot hijack or dictate the affairs of the PDP.
“We have dissociated ourselves from Wike’s utterances,” Abdullahi stated firmly, adding, “He will not hold the PDP captive.”
Wike had recently warned the PDP leadership against re-admitting Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, insisting that such a move would destroy the party. His comments triggered outrage within party ranks, with several governors and stakeholders dismissing his position as personal and not reflective of the collective interest of the PDP.
Abdullahi, however, reassured members and supporters that the PDP remains united and guided by its constitution, not by the personal ambitions of any single individual.
The party is currently preparing for its national convention amid internal rifts over control and direction, but the leadership maintains that unity and internal democracy will not be sacrificed
