Kenneth Okonkwo: I Can’t Predict Peter Obi’s 2027 Plans, Labour Party In Disarray

Lawyer and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, says he cannot predict whether former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will contest the 2027 elections under the party’s platform.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Okonkwo distanced himself from Obi, stressing that he no longer speaks on behalf of the former Anambra governor.

When asked if Obi should remain in the Labour Party, Okonkwo replied:
“That question is hypothetical. I’m not a prophet to know Peter Obi’s mind. So when you see him, kindly ask him that. As for me, I don’t know. I don’t speak for him any longer.”

Okonkwo also expressed deep concerns about the current state of the Labour Party, claiming it no longer has the structures that boosted its 2023 campaign.
“In 2023, we had a structure in the Labour Party – national executives, state executives, ward executives. Such structures no longer exist. Even the national leadership of the Labour Party is in dispute. INEC cannot categorically tell you who they are – neither can anyone else,” he said.

Warning about the risks of contesting under the party in its present condition, Okonkwo argued that no politician can make an impact without a solid structure.
“If the Labour Party goes into 2027 with any politician, he will not make any impact at all. In Nigeria, even if a politician wins and he’s the only one in that political party, they will take it away from him -;and nothing will happen,” he added.
