Dangote Refinery Sacks All Nigerian Workers 24 Hours After Joining PENGASSAN

The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has dismissed all its Nigerian workers less than 24 hours after about 90% of them joined the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).

A memo dated September 25, 2025, signed by Femi Adekunle, Chief General Manager of Human Asset Management, cited a “total re-organisation” of the refinery as the reason for the mass termination. The company alleged cases of sabotage in different units of the refinery.

The directive instructed affected staff to:

  • Surrender all company property to their line managers.
  • Obtain exit clearance.
  • Await computation of benefits and entitlements by the finance department.

The refinery’s management thanked the dismissed workers for their service.

This development escalates the ongoing trade dispute between Dangote Refinery and PENGASSAN over unionization rights, which has been a major flashpoint in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector
