The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a fresh public disclaimer distancing itself from several prominent members it earlier announced as expelled from the party, further exposing the deepening crisis within Nigeria’s main opposition party.
In a statement released on the party’s verified X (formerly Twitter) handle and signed by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, who claims to be the PDP National Chairman, the party informed the general public that the affected individuals are no longer members of the PDP and do not hold any office within the party.
According to the disclaimer, the expulsions were ratified at the PDP’s 2025 Elective National Convention held on November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The list of expelled members includes:
- Nyesom Wike
- Samuel Anyanwu
- Ayo Fayose
- Umar Bature
- Kamaldeen Ajibade
- Mao Ohuabunwa
- George Turnah
- Dan Orbih
- Austin Nwachukwu
- Mon’d Abdulrahman
- Abraham Amah
The statement warned the public that any dealings with the named individuals in the name of the PDP are unauthorized and done “at their own peril.”
Rival Factions Trade Disclaimers
The development has further fueled the raging leadership tussle within the PDP, as rival factions continue to issue conflicting statements, each claiming legitimacy. Political observers say the repeated releases and counter-releases are worsening the party’s internal instability.
Public Reactions
Reactions on social media and political forums have been mixed, with many Nigerians describing the situation as embarrassing for an opposition party expected to present a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections. Some commentators believe the crisis is playing directly into the hands of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Others have accused some of the expelled leaders, especially Nyesom Wike, of actively working against the PDP’s interests since the 2023 elections.
What This Means for PDP
Analysts warn that unless the PDP resolves its leadership and factional disputes quickly through legal and constitutional means, the party risks losing its remaining political structure and public confidence nationwide.
As it stands, the battle for the soul of the PDP is far from over.
