Mutfwang Remains PDP Governor Until APC Wins Fresh Mandate in 2027 — Jang

Former Plateau State Governor and Senator, Jonah David Jang, has insisted that Governor Caleb Mutfwang remains a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor despite his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at a press briefing with PDP stakeholders in Jos on Friday, Jang argued that Mutfwang was elected on the PDP platform and can only be regarded as an APC governor if the ruling party secures a fresh mandate for him in the 2027 general elections.

According to the former governor, the mandate currently being exercised by Mutfwang belongs to the PDP, having been freely given by the people of Plateau State under the party’s banner.
Jang, a long-standing PDP stalwart in the state, cautioned against the rising wave of political defections, warning that the trend could push Nigeria towards a one-party system, which he described as dangerous for democracy.

He stressed that the PDP remains Nigeria’s most enduring political party since 1998, noting its historical role in stabilising democracy and nurturing democratic institutions across the country.

The former senator also urged party leaders to place people-centred governance above personal ambition, adding that strong and principled political parties are essential for democratic stability and accountability.
