Nationwide Campaign for Igbo Presidency Ahead of 2027 Gains Momentum
A nationwide mobilisation drive has commenced to advocate for the emergence of a president of Igbo extraction in the 2027 general elections.
The campaign is being coordinated by the Igbo Presidency Project (IPP), a group positioning its advocacy around equity, national inclusion, and political balance.
Speaking at the launch of the initiative, the National Coordinator, Prince Chinedu Nsofor, said the movement is rooted in the demand for fairness and national stability
According to him, the push for an Igbo presidency is not about ethnic isolation but about reinforcing the Igbo people’s long-standing commitment to Nigeria’s unity and development.
He emphasized that Igbo communities have historically coexisted across Nigeria, contributing significantly to commerce, entrepreneurship, and industrial expansion.
Nsofor linked this to a system that values merit, competition, and decentralized leadership — principles he believes can strengthen governance at the national level.
Grassroots Strategy
As part of its mobilisation plan, IPP disclosed that it intends to deploy 10 volunteers to every polling unit nationwide to promote its message ahead of the 2027 elections.
The volunteers are expected to engage directly with voters in communities, markets, and other public spaces.
The group said the objective is to build broad-based national acceptance for an Igbo presidency before the next general elections.
IPP maintains that achieving this goal would promote equity in Nigeria’s power-sharing arrangement and help reduce long-standing political tensions among the country’s regions.
