One person had been while two others including a female resident were injured when armed bandits invaded Gbugbu community of Edu Local Government Area in Kwara State on Sunday night, DAILY POST reports.

The two injured residents, said to be Hausa and Nupe citizens were rushed to Ilorin, the state capital for medical attention, a resident informed our correspondent.

Confusion broke out in the community as the armed bandits stormed the area at about 8pm, shortly after the last Muslim prayer of the day, shooting indiscriminately and forcing people to scamper for safety.

The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents deepening insecurity across some parts of the state in the Kwara North and South Senatorial Districts.

DAILY POST recalls that the state Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq alongside the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede last week launched Joint Task Force ‘Operation Savannah Shield’ at the 22 Armoured Brigade in Ilorin in the sustained efforts to clear armed bandits out of the state.

A concerned resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the assailants shot non-stop across the town.

“As it is now, there is no confirmation yet regarding the number of casualties or villagers abducted,” the source said.

“The bandits stormed the community immediately after Isha’i prayer, shooting repeatedly while throwing residents into panic. Everyone is indoors.”

There was no response from any of the security agencies contacted at the time of this report on Monday.

The latest assault has heightened fears in Edu, Patigi, Ifelodun and Oyun local government areas, where residents have reported increasing attacks in recent weeks.

Only recently, terrorists reportedly struck Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state killed over 100 residents, burnt houses and abducted over 170 others who are still in captivity.
