The Bauchi State Police Command has called on residents who fled Mansur town in Alkaleri Local Government Area to return home, assuring them that the security situation is now under control.
Recall that residents of Gwana District in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State fled their homes en masse following a deadly attack by bandits that claimed the lives of two soldiers and a vigilante operative.
The attack, which occurred around 4:32 p.m. on February 22, 2026, targeted both the community and a Joint Task Force base.
Eyewitnesses said more than 100 well-armed assailants, riding on motorcycles in pairs, struck the communities in the middle of the night while residents were asleep.
Addressing journalists at the State Police Headquarters on Yandoka Road, in the wake of the incident, Spokesman of the Command, SP Nafiu Habib, said the Command had carried out a thorough security assessment following renewed threats in Gwana, Digare and Kafin Duguri communities.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Sani Omolori Aliyu, has ordered a massive joint deployment of security personnel to the affected border communities to suppress criminal elements linked to kidnapping and banditry.
According to him, the troubled areas have experienced recurring security breaches due to infiltration by armed groups from neighbouring states.
Habib, however, clarified that while incidents were recorded in neighbouring Gwana District, Mansur town remains unaffected.
“We want to reassure the residents of Mansur town who fled their homes that the situation is under control. There is no cause for alarm, and they can safely return to their communities,” he said.
He added that enhanced weaponry and reinforced joint operations involving the Police, the Military, the Department for State Servuce, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC and other security agencies were already yielding positive results.
He said security efforts are being supported by the Bauchi State Government under Governor Bala Mohammed.
Habib further stated that there is no safe haven for bandits in the area, adding that security personnel remain on ground to sustain peace and stability.
He also urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing credible intelligence and reporting suspicious movements, assuring them that informants’ identities would be protected.
