A former spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign, Segun Showunmi, has revealed the five critical questions he asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a recent meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday morning, monitored by headlineswave.ng, Showunmi said he used the opportunity of the meeting at Aso Rock to raise pressing national issues affecting Nigerians, ranging from hunger and insecurity to political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the conversation was frank and centered on matters that continue to trouble millions of Nigerians.
Questions About the 2027 Elections

Showunmi disclosed that one of the major concerns he raised was the increasing international attention Nigeria’s next presidential election could attract.

He said he asked the president whether his administration was prepared for the growing global interest in the 2027 elections, particularly from the United States and other Western powers.

“America is going to be interested in Nigeria’s 2027 elections. Are you ready?” he recalled asking the president.

The PDP chieftain stressed that Nigeria’s political stability and democratic credibility would come under intense scrutiny as the election approaches.

Wike’s Role in the Political Equation

Another question raised by Showunmi focused on the controversial role of Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), who remains a prominent figure within the opposition PDP while serving in an All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

Showunmi said he asked Tinubu directly:
“This our man in PDP, Wike — are you comfortable with how he is working for you?”

The question reflects the ongoing debate about Wike’s political alignment and his influence within the current administration.
Traditional Rulers’ Rift Raises Concern

Showunmi also raised concerns about tensions involving two prominent Yoruba monarchs — the Alaafin of Oyo and the Ooni of Ife.

He asked the president what steps were being taken to address the dispute and prevent it from escalating.

According to him, such conflicts among traditional institutions could affect cultural harmony and political stability in the region.

Hunger and Rising Poverty

Perhaps the most emotional part of the conversation centered on the worsening economic hardship facing Nigerians.

Showunmi said he did not mince words while speaking to the president.

“The people are hungry. What is happening? The poverty in the land is too much,” he told Tinubu.

Nigeria has been grappling with high inflation, rising food prices, and declining purchasing power since the removal of fuel subsidy and other economic reforms introduced by the government.

Growing Insecurity Across the Country
The PDP stalwart also raised alarm about the deteriorating security situation in many parts of the country.

From banditry and kidnappings to communal violence,

Showunmi noted that many Nigerians feel increasingly unsafe.

“On insecurity in the land, it is getting worrisome. Your government can do better because everywhere is unsafe,” he said he told the president.

A Rare Moment of Political Candour

Showunmi’s revelation has sparked discussion in political circles, with many observers describing the exchange as a rare moment of candid engagement between a prominent opposition figure and the sitting president.

While details of Tinubu’s responses were not fully disclosed, the PDP chieftain insisted that his questions reflected the concerns of ordinary Nigerians struggling with economic hardship and insecurity.

As Nigeria gradually moves toward the 2027 elections, analysts say conversations like these highlight the growing public demand for accountability, stability, and economic relief.
