Staff of Taraba State University, Jalingo, comprising academic and non-academic workers, have accepted a N500 million offer made by Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State, aimed at resolving the ongoing industrial dispute at the institution.
The chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) branch at the university, Joshua Garba Mbave, disclosed this in an interview with journalists on Monday in Jalingo, the state capital.
According to Mbave, the workers accepted the offer on the condition that a formal agreement would be signed with the state government to ensure that the commitments made are fully implemented.
“We have accepted the N500 million offer by Governor Agbu Kefas but with the condition to sign an agreement with the government. We must be sure that the governor is going to keep his promises,” he said.
He added that the ongoing strike action would be called off immediately after the agreement is signed.
Mbave also clarified: “I wish to make it clear that the N500 million is not only for ASUU. It is for both academic and non-academic staff.”
