Osun State Government has been called upon to investigate a series of complaints raised by students of University of Ilesa, following allegations of questionable charges and administrative practices within the institution.

The appeal was made by the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, South-West Zone D, which said the concerns required urgent attention to safeguard students’ welfare and ensure accountability.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its coordinator, Josiah Adeyemo, the student body highlighted what it described as irregular financial demands placed on students.

Adeyemo noted that one of the issues involved a N25,000 fee for entrepreneurial training programmes which, according to the association, had yet to be provided.

He also drew attention to a N5,000 per session charge for access to the university’s online portal, alleging that the platform remained unreliable despite the payments made by students.

“The pattern of financial charges imposed on students raises serious questions about transparency and service delivery within the institution,” Adeyemo stated.

He said, “Students are compelled to pay N5,000 per session for a university portal that remains largely ineffective and unreliable, while essential ICT infrastructure, including Wi-Fi services, is inadequate.”

The NANS official added that concerns had also been raised over the absence of an active student union and the broader learning environment.

He urged the state government to review the situation and take necessary steps where required.

DAILY POST recalled that controversy trailed the reported arrest of a University of Ilesa, Ilesa, Osun State, UNILESA, graduate for protesting against alleged delay in mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.

The graduate, identified as Adedoyin Temitope, also known as Matuwo or Aregbe, was reportedly arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police after staging a protest over his exclusion from the NYSC mobilisation list.

The development drew criticism from the National Association of University Students, NAUS, which condemned the arrest and alleged maltreatment of the graduate through a statement signed by its Osun State Chairman, Comrade Adeleke Samson.

However, the university management through a statement by its Registrar, Funso Ojo refuted reports surrounding the incident, describing them as inaccurate and misleading since it was yet to graduate its first set of students after its 2023 take-off.
