A tragic incident has marred the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections in Plateau State after a man identified as Sani Abdullahi was reportedly shot dead during a disturbance at the venue of the House of Representatives primary election in Mangu Local Government Area.

According to a report by dailytrust.com the victim, a resident of Kasuwan Ali community, was allegedly hit by a stray bullet fired by soldiers who attempted to disperse protesting youths at the venue.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that tension began when party members protested delays in the commencement of the primary election, which had earlier been scheduled for Saturday morning.

The delay was reportedly caused by the absence of electoral officials and returning officers.

A resident, Ibrahim Sale, said frustrated youths blocked roads to prevent government officials from leaving the venue until the electoral officers arrived to conduct the exercise. Security personnel were then deployed to restore order.

According to eyewitness accounts, some youths allegedly hurled stones at the security operatives, prompting soldiers to open fire. In the process, Sani Abdullahi was struck by a bullet and died on the spot.

The incident has triggered outrage among residents and political observers, with many calling for an immediate investigation and accountability over the killing.

The development further highlights the growing tension and violence surrounding party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
