Former Plateau State Governor, Senator Jonah David Jang, has explained the reason behind his absence at the wedding ceremony of Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s daughter, dismissing speculation that it was linked to any political disagreement.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Media Consultant, Comrade Clinton Garuba and made available to the media, Senator Jang described reports suggesting a rift between him and Governor Mutfwang as unfounded.

According to the statement, the former governor was unable to attend the wedding of Nanbam Mutfwang and Mr. Jeremiah Adeoye Ayodele because he had a prior commitment in Makurdi, Benue State.

The statement explained that Jang had earlier accepted an invitation from the Governor of Benue State to participate in activities marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Benue State, where he once served as military governor.

It added that Senator Jang travelled to Makurdi alongside his wife, former First Lady Mrs. Talatu Jonah Jang, whose presence was also considered significant because she served as Benue State’s First Lady during his tenure.

According to the statement, when Governor Caleb Mutfwang personally invited Senator Jang to his daughter’s wedding, the former governor immediately informed him that he would be unable to attend because of the earlier commitment in Benue.

To honour the invitation, the statement said a member of Senator Jang’s family represented him at the wedding ceremony held in Jos.

“The public is therefore urged to disregard the said story. The Senator’s absence was purely a matter of prior engagement and not politics,” the statement concluded.

The clarification comes after an online publication questioned whether Senator Jang’s absence from the high-profile wedding could signal a strained relationship between the two prominent Plateau political figures.
