National Security Alert: Police Raise Alarm Over Planned Attacks on Churches, Schools and NYSC Camps
The Nigeria Police Force has raised a nationwide security alert following intelligence indicating increased mobilisation of suspected terrorist elements for possible coordinated attacks on places of worship, schools, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps and other vulnerable locations.
The warning was contained in a police wireless message dated September 13, 2026, issued by the Department of Operations at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The communication, marked “Security General” and tagged “Treat as Very Important,” was circulated to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police overseeing Zones 1–17, Commissioners of Police across the states and specialised formations, including counter-terrorism units.
According to the intelligence cited in the alert, the threat is of particular concern in parts of the North-East, North-West, North-Central and South-West.

The police also reported intelligence indicating the movement of armed elements from Katsina through Kaduna towards Plateau State, while suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) operatives and local collaborators were reportedly conducting surveillance and reconnaissance of potential targets.
Schools and NYSC camps under heightened watch
The security alert comes as schools prepare for the resumption of the 2026/2027 academic session.

The police expressed particular concern that terrorists could exploit the concentration of students and staff in educational institutions to cause mass casualties.
NYSC orientation camps have also been listed among the vulnerable locations requiring increased protection.
Police formations were consequently directed to strengthen surveillance and security around schools, places of worship, NYSC camps and other identified vulnerable locations.
Security agencies ordered to step up operations
The police directive reportedly ordered commanders to intensify intelligence-led surveillance, patrols, stop-and-search operations, access control and rapid-response arrangements.
Commissioners of Police were also instructed to strengthen security at state borders, entry and exit points and other routes that could be used by armed groups to infiltrate affected areas.
Security formations were further directed to improve cooperation with other security and intelligence agencies, school authorities, religious leaders and NYSC officials to strengthen intelligence sharing and early-warning mechanisms.
The public has also been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, vehicles, movements or objects through established security channels.
What the police alert means
Importantly, the intelligence alert does not mean that an attack is certain or that every church, school or NYSC camp has been specifically identified for attack.
Rather, the security communication indicates that authorities have received intelligence suggesting possible terrorist preparations and have ordered preventive measures to reduce the risk.
The reported alert is also consistent with separate recent security warnings attributed to the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services concerning possible attacks on vulnerable public locations.
However, reports differ on the precise origin and scope of the various intelligence warnings, making it important to distinguish confirmed security directives from unverified claims circulating on social media.
