A section of the Jos Main Market, specifically the area housing the Plateau State Metro Terminal, near old JUTH was engulfed by fire in the the late hours of Wednesday, April 29.

The source of the inferno remains unknown at the time of filing this report. However, eyewitnesses and local sources confirmed that the fire broke out around midnight, causing panic among nearby residents.

Security operatives have since cordoned off the area, dispersing onlookers to ensure safety and maintain order.

It will be recalled that the main market was razed by fire in 2002, leading to its prolonged closure. The current administration, in a bid to revitalize economic activity and support the metro bus transportation system, carried out temporary repairs in parts of the market. One of the renovated sections was repurposed as a bus terminal, which is among the areas now affected by the latest fire outbreak.
