Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has confirmed the appointment of Prof. Kate Omenugha as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU).
The official confirmation was conveyed on Wednesday via a letter presented by Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, Secretary to the State Government, at the Government House in Awka.
Prof. Omenugha had been serving in an acting capacity since December 2023. Her appointment follows the conclusion of a selection process that began with a formal advertisement on January 2.
The governor’s press secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime, announced the development, stating that Soludo congratulated Omenugha and expressed confidence in her ability to lead the institution effectively. He also assured her of the state government’s full support throughout her tenure.
Soludo urged the university community and stakeholders to rally behind the new Vice Chancellor in the interest of sustained growth and academic excellence.
Prof. Omenugha, a renowned professor of Mass Communication, previously served as Anambra State Commissioner for Education.
