Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, on Wednesday made a vigorous push to galvanise grassroots backing for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Alexander Adanu, ahead of Saturday’s closely contested bye-election.
His campaign stops in Kujama and Rido, both in Chikun Local Government Area, drew large, cheering crowds, as residents poured into the streets to welcome the former governor and his entourage.
Addressing supporters in Kujama, El-Rufai voiced appreciation for what he described as the “warmth and acceptance” extended to him and the ADC flagbearer, adding that the turnout reflected the community’s readiness to embrace a new political direction.
“Alhamdulillah. We are overwhelmed by the warmth and acceptance of our candidate. This is a movement that stands for hope, integrity, and service to our people,” he told the jubilant gathering.
The scene in Rido was equally charged, with chants of solidarity and party slogans ringing through the air. El-Rufai encouraged voters to come out in large numbers on Saturday, noting that the ADC’s agenda for Chikun and the wider state reflects the aspirations of ordinary citizens for inclusive governance, enhanced security, and sustainable development.
His open endorsement of the ADC candidate comes as political activity intensifies across Kaduna, with parties making final bids to win over the electorate in the fiercely contested race.
Observers suggest El-Rufai’s active involvement could strengthen the ADC’s prospects, particularly in areas where his political influence remains strong.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the bye-election for Saturday, with several parties vying to fill the Chikun/Kajuru federal constituency seat left vacant by the death of Hon Ekene Abubakar Adams.
