The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has mourned the passing of two prominent Northern leaders — retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Sani Sami, the Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, and veteran politician and businessman, Alhaji Isyaku Ibrahim.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tanko Muhammad-Baba, the forum described the deaths of the emir, aged 81, and Ibrahim, aged 89, as a monumental loss to Northern Nigeria and the nation at large.
Gen. Sani Sami, who held the traditional title Gomo II, joined the Nigerian Army in 1962 and served with distinction during the civil war. He later rose to become Commandant of the Brigade of Guards and also served as Military Governor of Bauchi State before retiring into traditional leadership as Emir of Zuru.
The ACF praised him as a leader whose life was defined by service to the nation, his people, and humanity.
Alhaji Isyaku Ibrahim was celebrated for his role in shaping Nigeria’s political and business landscape. A founding member of the Board of Trustees of both the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) and later the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he was also widely respected for his philanthropy and commitment to sports development.
The forum recalled his principled stand on national issues, including his outspoken defense of democracy during Nigeria’s military era.
“The Arewa Consultative Forum will forever cherish the legacies and memories of these great men,” Muhammad-Baba said.
The forum extended its condolences to the families of the deceased, the governments and people of Kebbi and Nasarawa States, and Nigerians everywhere, praying for the peaceful repose of their souls in Aljannat Firdaus.
