Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has directed local government chairmen elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to draw up development agendas for their councils as the state awaits the Supreme Court’s verdict on the lingering local government crisis.
The governor gave the directive during a State Executive Council meeting where key policies were reviewed and new implementation orders were issued to ministries and agencies.
Governor Adeleke said: “Ahead of the resolution of the local government crisis, we must as a government encourage members of ALGON to create a development agenda for their respective local governments. Each local government must have a developmental document which will flow from the state development agenda. The Chief of Staff with the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning should interface with ALGON to make this initiative a reality.”
He further directed a review of the Imole Youth Corps for quality assurance, stressing the need for strict monitoring of corps members to achieve the scheme’s objectives.
The governor also charged council members to take note of the administration’s achievements in the climate change sector, stating that Osun’s initiatives had drawn attention from other states, the Federal Government, international agencies, and donor organisations.
“Our ultimate goal is to generate grants and donor support from several willing donor groups,” he added.
Adeleke emphasised the need to build a governance data system to measure performance across sectors as the 2026 election approaches.
He ordered the state’s statistics agency to adopt modern best practices in data collection and reporting.
It would be recalled that both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmen are laying claims to being the authentic officials at the local government level in the state, a dispute now before the Supreme Court.
