Anambra Election 2025: Obidient Movement Endorses George Moghalu, Says Peter Obi Is Solidly Behind Him
The Obidient Movement has formally thrown its weight behind Dr. George Moghalu, endorsing him as the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the forthcoming November 8, 2025 Anambra governorship election.
The announcement was made on Tuesday in a statement signed by Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the movement. Tanko described Moghalu as a “relentless warrior for the voiceless masses,” stressing that the Labour Party candidate embodies the values of empathy, accountability, and people-centred governance.
He further revealed that the endorsement comes with the full blessing of Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate and political leader whose influence remains strong in Anambra and across Nigeria.
“We declare, without reservation, our absolute and thunderous endorsement of Dr. George Moghalu as the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate. With a voting population of 2.8 million registered voters spread across 21 LGAs, LP is coasting to victory with a landslide,” the statement read in part.
Tanko expressed confidence that Moghalu would dismantle what he described as “decades of plunder, nepotism, and heartless leadership” in Anambra, insisting that the Labour Party is on course to reclaim the state for the people.
He added that with the backing of Peter Obi and the strength of the Obidient Movement, “Moghalu will lead not with whispers but with the roar of a new dawn.”
Who is George Moghalu?
George Moghalu, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for the Anambra election 2025, is a seasoned politician, administrator, and development advocate with a reputation for consistency and loyalty in Nigeria’s political space.
He is a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before switching allegiance to the Labour Party.
Moghalu once served as the National Auditor of the APC and played a key role in strengthening party structures across the country.
In 2019, he was appointed as the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), where he spearheaded reforms to revitalize Nigeria’s inland waterways.
Moghalu has contested for the governorship of Anambra in the past, making him no stranger to the political terrain of the state.
