Fresh details have emerged surrounding the tragic death of Barrister Abdulsalami Ginsau, a lawyer and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, from Kano State, who died in an elevator incident in Abuja.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that the lawyer suffocated after being trapped in a hotel lift on Friday.

However, fresh accounts from security operatives at the Utako-based hotel have offered a different perspective on the incident.

One of the security operatives on duty on the day the unfortunate incident, Danjuma Idris, alleged that the actions of party delegates contributed to the circumstances that led to Ginsau’s death.

According to the security personnel, the elevator had been damaged prior to the incident due to misuse by delegates attending the APC national convention in Abuja.

The source claimed that rather than dying from suffocation inside the lift, Ginsau reportedly fell into the elevator shaft after unknowingly stepping into a malfunctioning lift area.

The late lawyer, who was staying on the third floor, was said to have left his room around 6:30 am and headed for the elevator, unaware of the fault.

“It is a sad development. From what we gathered, the deceased might have been rescued if those who witnessed the incident had raised the alarm promptly,” the source said. “Instead, some individuals who saw him fall failed to notify hotel staff and left the scene.”

The operative further alleged that the hotel had been overwhelmed by a large number of delegates, particularly from Kano State, far exceeding its accommodation capacity.

“You cannot book about 150 rooms and then have nearly 2,000 people present, acting in a disorderly manner and intimidating hotel staff,” the source added.

“The lift, designed for six to eight persons, was often overloaded with as many as 12 to 14 individuals, despite warnings.”

A senior hotel staff member, who declined to speak officially due to ongoing police investigations, also expressed concern over the conduct of some guests.

The staff member noted that proper procedures were not followed and that the incident was not immediately reported to management.

When DAILY POST contacted the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, the spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said the matter is currently being investigated.

DAILY POST reports that the APC national convention was held in Abuja on March 27 to 28, 2026.
