Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, on Thursday honoured fallen members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Police and other security agencies who lost their lives while working to restore peace across the state.
The tribute was paid during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony held at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau.
The governor, who was represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, assured families of the fallen heroes of the state government’s commitment to programmes aimed at improving their welfare and wellbeing.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lawal said the annual event serves as a reminder of the courage, sacrifice and patriotism of security personnel who paid the ultimate price for the country’s peace and stability.
“Zamfara State has, in recent years, borne a heavy burden of insecurity. In the face of banditry, terrorism and other criminal activities, our Armed Forces and security personnel have stood firm, often at great personal risk,” he said.
According to him, many officers and soldiers lost their lives in the course of restoring peace to communities across the state, stressing that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.
“We salute their courage and reaffirm our collective resolve to build a safer and more prosperous Zamfara State,” the governor added.
Lawal also expressed sympathy to families of the fallen heroes, particularly widows, widowers and children, noting that their loved ones died in service to humanity and in defence of the collective future of the state.
He assured that the Zamfara State Government would continue to support initiatives targeted at improving the welfare and wellbeing of families of fallen security personnel.
The governor further urged residents to support the Armed Forces and other security agencies through cooperation and the sharing of credible information, adding that his administration would continue to strengthen security operations through improved logistics, enhanced welfare packages and technology-driven intelligence strategies.
