Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Wednesday cautioned that his administration would take firm action against anyone attempting to cause disorder during the forthcoming by-election in the Remo Federal Constituency, set for this Saturday.
Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area, Abiodun stressed that the poll was a democratic process to choose a successor to the late Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, who represented the constituency in the House of Representatives.
“I have heard that some people are making threats; we will not treat such matters lightly. Let me be clear: anyone who causes trouble on Saturday will face the consequences,” the governor declared.
“By the grace of God and by your votes, I am the Executive Governor of Ogun State. They are envious; you cannot compare death with sleep. I am also the Chief Security Officer of Ogun State.
“On Saturday, come out without fear. Any threat they make will amount to nothing. I stand with you, and anyone caught will face the full weight of the law,” he assured supporters.
Abiodun remarked that the by-election was about sustaining the intellectual and service-driven representation provided by the late Hon. Onanuga, fondly called ‘Ijaya’, and not about political thuggery.
He underlined the importance of continuity, expressing confidence that the APC candidate, Adesola Elegbeji, would deliver effective representation.
“Elegbeji will represent you with distinction in the House of Representatives. She is highly intelligent, calm, and well-informed.
“As the Chief Security Officer of this state, I assure you of protection. Our party governs the country, and those making empty threats are wasting their time,” he said.
The governor also identified Ogijo as a vital border community and pledged that his administration would continue to prioritise its development.
