…Calls for decisive action against escalating insecurity
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has issued a bold and urgent appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a full-scale war on armed gunmen who continue to terrorize communities across the country.
In a strongly worded statement released on Sunday, CAN expressed deep concern over the growing wave of killings, kidnappings, and wanton destruction of lives and property by armed bandits, insurgents, and suspected herdsmen. The association described the insecurity as “a national emergency that demands immediate and decisive action.”
“Enough is enough,” the statement read. “Our communities are under siege. From Benue to Plateau, Zamfara to the South-East, innocent Nigerians are being slaughtered daily while the government looks on helplessly. The bloodshed must stop.”
CAN called on President Tinubu to rise above politics and sentiment by launching a coordinated military offensive against all criminal elements threatening the peace and stability of the country.
“Nigerians voted for protection, peace, and progress. What we see today is the opposite. Mr. President, declare a total war on these gunmen. Use every lawful force available to restore order and defend the sovereignty of this nation.”
The association also urged security agencies to step up intelligence gathering and to fish out collaborators within government and security circles who may be aiding the operations of these armed groups.
CAN further appealed to religious and traditional leaders to unite in condemning violence and to avoid giving ethnic or religious coloration to acts of terrorism and criminality.
As citizens grow increasingly weary of government promises, CAN’s call reflects the frustration of many Nigerians who believe that the time for decisive action is now
