The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested seven suspected cattle rustlers and recovered several stolen animals in different operations across the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shisu Adam, confirmed the arrests on Thursday, adding that efforts were ongoing to apprehend fleeing accomplices.
The command first arrested Usman Yusuf, 25, of Boguwa Fulani Settlement in Malam Madori LGA, over the theft of a bull worth ₦800,000 from the house of Alh. Adamu Hussaini of Maidaru Village. His alleged accomplice, Haruna Birau, remains at large. Police said the stolen cow was recovered.
In another operation along Baturiya–Hadejia Road, operatives intercepted two suspects conveying stolen cows inside an unregistered white Golf vehicle.
They were identified as Isubu Adamu alias Banbalasta, 40, of Kokura Fulani Settlement, and Danladi Maikudi, 30, of Kujuru Village, both in Kiri Kasamma LGA.
During interrogation, Isubu confessed to stealing the cows in collaboration with one Datti of Lafiyari Fulani Settlement, Guri LGA, who is currently on the run. One victim, Alhassan, 35, of Jalmari Village, Guri LGA, later identified one of the recovered cows as his.
Police also arrested Umaru Audu of Kuhurdu Fulani Camp, Malam Madori LGA, while attempting to move two stolen cows along the Kafin-Hausa route.
The animals had earlier been stolen from Maijama’a Sule of Dawae Dawae Fulani Camp, Kaugama LGA.
Similarly, Ali Alh. Buji, 25, of Taura township, was arrested in connection with the theft of four cows and nine sheep belonging to Hassan Zkitu, 40, of Birniwa LGA. Two cows were recovered while other suspects fled.
In a separate development, police operatives arrested Amadu Muhammad, 23, of Karidu Village, Guri LGA, with vandalised high-tension electric cables concealed in fertilizer bags. He was intercepted at Margadu Village while attempting to transport the items to Nguru, Yobe State.
His accomplice, Hassan Amadu of Kasaga Village, escaped upon sighting the police.
SP Shisu assured that the command had intensified efforts to track down all fleeing suspects and recover remaining stolen livestock.
