BREAKING: EFCC Chairman, Ex-Rivers Sole Administrator Ibas in Aso Rock Amid Probes
The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, and the immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, were on Wednesday sighted at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, sparking fresh speculations about behind-the-scenes dealings at the highest levels of government.
According to reports, Ibas arrived at the State House at about 5:50 pm following a summon by President Bola Tinubu. His visit comes just days after he handed back power to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, ending a controversial six-month suspension of the governor imposed by the Presidency in March.
During his brief tenure, Ibas oversaw critical decisions in Rivers, many of which have now attracted scrutiny. The State House of Assembly has already resolved to launch a probe into his administration, raising questions about alleged financial mismanagement and political overreach.
Olukoyede’s presence alongside Ibas has fueled speculations that the EFCC may be stepping in to review transactions and policy directives executed during the interim rule. Sources within Abuja suggest that the meeting may not be unconnected with concerns over Rivers’ finances, governance irregularities, and political stability in the oil-rich state.
The discreet nature of the Villa meeting, and the timing so soon after Ibas’s handover, has ignited whispers of a deeper power tussle between loyalists of the Presidency and the reinstated Governor Fubara. While official details remain sketchy, analysts say the development could reshape political alignments in Rivers ahead of 2027.
