Orji Kalu Declares Himself ‘Most Important Politician in South East’, Says Peter Obi Is Not His Leader
Former Abia State Governor and Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared himself the most important politician in the South East, insisting that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is not his leader.
Kalu made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, where he highlighted his long-standing political achievements and influence in the region.
“Peter is not my leader. I’m the most important politician from that zone. I have won two states before under the PPA. I have run for president before. My 4.9 million votes are still there since 2007,” Kalu said.
The former governor further recalled his role during the administration of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, noting that his Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) had a strong presence in government at the time.
“I achieved a lot with PPA. We had ministers, ambassadors, and several appointments under President Yar’Adua,” he added.
Challenging Obi to a public debate, Kalu said:
“Arrange in your studio a meeting between me and Peter Obi. Put two of us in the same place.”
Kalu’s comments have stirred fresh political reactions across the South East, especially as the region prepares for a new phase of political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
