Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, has disclosed that the extended 2024 budget has reached around 80 per cent implementation as of September 2025.

Edun gave the update on Wednesday during a closed-door session with the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations. He was accompanied by the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, as both reviewed the performance of the 2024–2025 Appropriation Act.

Speaking after the meeting, Committee Chairman, Rep. Abubakar Bichi, assured journalists that the committee remains committed to safeguarding accountability on behalf of Nigerians. He said the ministers addressed concerns raised by lawmakers and pledged that more visible outcomes from the budget would materialise before the end of the year.

“We will continue to monitor closely,” Bichi stated.

Edun confirmed that the 2024 budget, which was extended by the National Assembly to run until December, is still being executed. “Implementation is at about 80 per cent,” he reiterated.

The session also touched on the 2025 budget, with discussions centred on grassroots development projects and key infrastructure, including roads and irrigation systems. Edun clarified that no supplementary budget was under consideration.

In his remarks, Budget Minister Bagudu commended the National Assembly for its support of the Tinubu administration’s reform programme. He noted that lawmakers have endorsed major initiatives, particularly tax reforms, which he said are already producing encouraging results.

“Today’s engagement helped identify areas for improvement,” Bagudu said, stressing the cooperative approach between the executive and legislature.
