Programmes Officer of Centre for Democracy and Development, CDD, David Emefiele, has decried low voter turnout in the just concluded FCT Area Council election.

Speaking on Arise Television, monitored by DAILY POST on Sunday, Emefiele said there was a huge disparity between accredited, registered, and actual voters.

DAILY POST reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, conducted the FCT area council elections on February 21, 2026.

The Commission on Sunday declared the candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, winners in AMAC, Bwari, Kwali and Abaji Areas Councils. The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, won in Gwagwalada Area Council while Kuje is being awaited.

Reacting, Emefiele said, “We witnessed a huge disparity between accredited, registered, and actual voters.

“There was also a lot of confusion regarding polling units because there was a change of polling units hours before the election, with no communication from INEC, which was compounded by the imposed curfew in FCT.”
