Peter Obi Defies Threats from Edo Governor, Vows to Continue Donations Nationwide
Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has vowed to proceed with his philanthropic engagements across Nigeria, including Edo State, despite recent threats reportedly issued by Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Addressing journalists in Awka, Anambra State, Obi responded to warnings that his safety could not be guaranteed in Edo, describing them as “a waste of time.”
“Threats don’t mean anything to me. I receive threats every day, the only difference is that some are more vocal,” Obi said confidently. “If I have the opportunity to go to Benin and make donations again, trust me, I will.”
Obi emphasized that his mission is to invest in people, not politics. “I’ve always said we must de-emphasize politics and invest in our people. In Benin, I supported healthcare institutions because better doctors and nurses mean better lives. The governor should be grateful, not threatening me.”
The former Anambra State governor made these remarks during a donation visit to Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha — his alma mater — where he, alongside other alumni, presented a ₦50 million donation.
“I just spoke to one or two old boys about the school’s urgent need for staff quarters and a modern administrative block. They responded immediately. That’s what we should all be doing — building the future.”
Despite the tension surrounding his upcoming Edo visit, Obi made it clear that nothing would derail his commitment to education and national development.
He said: “I’m in school today. I’ll be in another school tomorrow. I’ll be in schools on Saturday, Sunday, and even Monday. Forget about the threats — they’re distractions,”
Obi’s resolve continues to earn him praise from Nigerians who see him as a model of selfless leadership and unwavering patriotism.
