True to our earlier report Enugu Governor, Peter Mbah has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mbah, who made the announcement in a statewide broadcast on Tuesday, described his decision as a “bold step toward a new political direction for Enugu and its people.”
“Today, after a long reflection, we have made the decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress,” he declared.
According to the governor, his defection marks “a break from the past and a renewed commitment to the transformation of Enugu State.”
Mbah said leadership sometimes demands painful but necessary choices made in the interest of higher principles and the people’s future.
“There comes a time when everyone must make a bold choice to determine their destiny,” he added
Why This Move Matters
Governor Mbah’s switch to the APC comes amid a growing wave of political realignments across Nigeria, with several PDP governors and key figures reconsidering their party loyalties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political watchers believe the defection could significantly alter Enugu’s political structure, strengthen APC’s foothold in the South-East, and further weaken the PDP’s dominance in the region.
Meanwhile, reactions have begun to pour in from both camps, with APC insiders describing the move as “strategic,” while PDP loyalists view it as “a betrayal of trust.”
