Tragedy struck in Uromi, Edo State, following the killing of Mr Ibharokhonre Charles, who was shot dead by suspected gunmen on August 11, 2025.
According to a sworn affidavit deposed by his son, Mr Ibharokhonre Ehichoya Theophilus, the late Charles was attacked at his residence on Charles Ibharokhonre Street, off Okhenlen Awo Road, Onewa, Uromi.

Quoting an eyewitness account, Theophilus disclosed that one of the assailants greeted his father, who did not respond. Moments later, gunshots were heard, and the attackers shot the victim at close range before fleeing.
“The eyewitness, who lives around the area, said he was on his motorcycle heading home when he noticed the two young men in my father’s compound. Shortly after he got to his house, he heard gunshots and then loud shouts. When he rushed back, he saw my father lying dead on the ground,” the affidavit read in part.
