The Jos and District Society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has honoured the Executive Chairman of the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS), Dr. Jim Pam Wayas, PhD, FCA, for his outstanding contributions to the growth of the accounting profession and institutional development in Plateau State.

The recognition took place during ICAN Jos District’s Dinner and Award Night held at the Joshua Dariye Hall, Plateau State Polytechnic, Jos, drawing members, their spouses, and distinguished guests from across the state in a night marked by gratitude, reflection, and celebration.
A Night of Thanksgiving, Not Speeches
In his opening remarks, PAM Musa Chung, FCA, the 26th Chairman of ICAN Jos & District Society, described the event as a gathering of thanksgiving rather than long speeches. He thanked God for the district’s journey and reflected on the significant progress recorded since the last dinner held in 2019.
According to him, the district has achieved major milestones, including the acquisition of a district office, improved engagement with government institutions, stronger financial stability, and the successful hosting of professional and social programmes. He also noted the growing relevance of the Jos District at both zonal and national levels, with members increasingly visible in public service and political leadership.
“The large turnout tonight is proof of our unity, commitment, and rising influence as a district,” Chung said.
Honouring Excellence and Service

Dr. Wayas was honoured for his professional excellence, unwavering support for ICAN, and consistent commitment to ethical leadership. A seasoned accountant with extensive experience across public and private sectors, he is widely respected for his expertise in financial accounting, auditing, taxation, risk-based audits, and financial reporting, with deep proficiency in IFRS and IPSAS.
Academically, Dr. Wayas holds a PhD in Accounting from Nile University of Nigeria and is an alumnus of the Harvard Kennedy School, USA. He is a Fellow of ICAN and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), as well as a member of ACCA (UK).
Driving Revenue Reforms in Plateau
As Executive Chairman of the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service, Dr. Wayas has spearheaded bold reforms that resulted in a historic 96 percent increase in internally generated revenue within two years—a feat widely regarded as transformative for the state’s fiscal sustainability.
His leadership style, observers note, is anchored on innovation, transparency, and long-term sustainability. Beyond revenue administration, he is also known as an academic, mentor, and researcher committed to grooming the next generation of accounting and finance professionals.
Appreciation Message

Receiving the award on his behalf, Wulashik Lucius Dafaan conveyed Dr. Wayas’ apologies for his absence and expressed deep appreciation to ICAN Jos District for the honour. He reaffirmed Dr. Wayas’ strong commitment to the institute and his desire to see the district attain its rightful place at the national level.
The award night ended on a note of renewed unity and optimism, as members celebrated not just individual excellence but the collective progress of ICAN Jos & District Society.
