Ikeja Electric Plc has inaugurated a 15MVA power substation in Kwarun-Ikotun, Lagos, a move that has drawn praise from industry stakeholders and community leaders alike.

The new infrastructure, built from scratch, is set to enhance power supply to the Ikotun–Abaranje axis, a region that has long endured frequent load-shedding and unreliable electricity. The project was officially unveiled with commendations from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), who described it as a major leap in the ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s power distribution network.

NISO Managing Director, Mohammed Bello, hailed the development as a significant milestone for Ikeja Electric, praising the company’s track record of innovation and consistent service since the power sector’s privatisation. He also emphasised the role of NISO in modernising the grid and attracting private investment under the new Electricity Act.

Similarly, TCN Lagos Region General Manager, Mojeed Akintola, commended the execution of the project and called for proper maintenance to ensure long-term efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Local stakeholders also expressed support. Adesua Olalekan, Chairman of the Abaranje 11KV Feeder, described the new substation as a “game-changer” for the community, pledging cooperation with the company and commitment to prompt bill payments.

Speaking at the event, Ikeja Electric CEO Folake Soetan credited the community’s patience and the contribution of the company’s board, staff, and technical partners, Bolamark Engineering Limited. She reaffirmed the company’s dedication to service excellence, safety, and long-term investment in power infrastructure.
