The Jigawa State Police Command has announced a significant advancement in its ongoing efforts to tackle crime, confirming the arrest of 156 individuals linked to a broad spectrum of criminal activities including kidnapping, armed robbery, homicide, theft, drug trafficking, and vandalism.

Commissioner of Police, CP Muhd Dashiru, shared details of the arrests during a press briefing at his office, drawing attention to the apprehension of a well-known kidnapping ringleader, Adamu Musa, 47, from Yalwawa Quarters in Dutse Local Government Area. Musa had been a source of terror for residents of Sumaila LGA in neighbouring Kano State.

According to the police, Musa was involved in the abduction of four individuals on separate occasions, extorting ransoms amounting to N8 million along with a motorcycle valued at N1 million. “The investigation has been concluded, and the suspect is now facing prosecution,” CP Dashiru confirmed.

The Commissioner also detailed the arrest of Abubakar Aliyu for his role in a case of criminal conspiracy, burglary, and theft in Malam Madori. Aliyu allegedly stole a safe containing N870,000, along with two power banks, a POS terminal, approximately twenty mobile phones, and a Bluetooth speaker.

Acting on intelligence gathered from the incident, police officers conducted a raid on a known criminal hotspot near the railway station in Malam Madori town. This operation led to the arrest of three more suspects: Nuhu Yusif Saleh, 19; Hassan Ibrahim, 19; and Nura Musa, 22 — all residents of Malam Madori LGA. Investigators recovered the stolen items, including the safe with its cash contents intact.

Further operations by the anti-kidnapping unit attached to the Ringim Division led to the capture of Iro Garba, 25, from Zangwaye Fulani Settlement in Ajingi LGA of Kano State. Garba, identified as a dangerous suspect linked to both armed robbery and kidnapping, reportedly admitted to carrying out a series of attacks across Kano, Jigawa, and Bauchi States, in collaboration with four others who are currently on the run.

Police recovered three pairs of military camouflage uniforms from Garba. CP Dashiru noted that efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining suspects.

Providing an extensive overview of the Command’s recent achievements, the Commissioner listed the arrest of two alleged gun runners, one kidnapper, ten armed robbery suspects, eighteen individuals accused of culpable homicide, sixteen charged with rape or related offences, sixteen vandals, fifty drug traffickers and dealers, and forty-three individuals suspected of theft.

In addition to the arrests, the operations yielded significant evidence: two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, three vehicles, one tricycle, four motorcycles, a substantial quantity of vandalised cable wire, twenty-three mobile phones, and fourteen cattle were recovered.

Police also seized a large cache of narcotics and other illicit substances. The haul included 3,907 Exol tablets, 11,742 D-5 tablets, 395 Tramadol tablets, 861 wraps and large volumes of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp, 1,121 Diazepam tablets, 288 containers of rubber solution, and forty Lara capsules.

CP Dashiru credited the string of successes to the “relentless dedication of officers and personnel within the Command, along with the targeted implementation of my three-point policing strategies.”

He stated that these coordinated measures have significantly curtailed criminal activity across Jigawa State, sending a strong and unmistakable warning to criminal networks that the Command is both capable and ready to act decisively against lawlessness.
