The Goodluck Jonathan Foundation has commenced its annual Democracy Dialogue in Accra, Ghana, themed “Why Democracies Die.”
The event, scheduled for Monday, is hosted in collaboration with the Government of Ghana.
Former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, founder of the Foundation, stated on his verified social media accounts that the dialogue will provide participants an opportunity to reflect on the progress, challenges, and prospects of decades of democratic governance in West Africa.
“I am hopeful that the deliberations and outcomes from this event will contribute meaningfully to deepening democracy in our region, and translate into greater peace, security, and good governance,” Jonathan said.
The #GEJDemocracyDialogue brings together policymakers, academics, and civil society actors to examine the state of democracy in the sub-region and propose actionable recommendations for strengthening democratic institutions.
