According to the Nigerian military, the incident occurred in the late hours of Thursday at Dutse Uku in Jos North Local Government Area.
Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, were responding to a distress call reporting sporadic gunfire in the area when they made a shocking discovery.
At approximately 11:45 pm, the soldiers intercepted two individuals dressed in black tactical uniforms—appearing like legitimate security personnel.However, upon closer engagement, the truth emerged.
Fake Soldiers Caught in the Act
The suspects were allegedly caught actively participating in the burning of homes and orchestrating violence within the community.
Their arrest has raised serious concerns about how attackers may be exploiting military uniforms to gain access to communities, evade suspicion and carry out coordinated attacks
The military confirmed that both suspects are now in custody and undergoing further investigation.
Victims Rescued, Situation Stabilised
During the operation, troops also rescued victims caught in the violence.Two individuals who sustained gunshot wounds were immediately evacuated to a medical facility, where they are currently receiving treatment and reported to be in stable condition.
Military Responds to Allegations
The arrest comes at a critical time, amid public accusations suggesting that security personnel may have been complicit in recent attacks in Jos North.
However, the military has strongly dismissed these claims, stating that the latest arrests clearly show that criminals disguised as security agents are behind the violence.
Fresh Attacks Neutralised in Wase
In a related development, military operations extended to Karem in Wase Local Government Area, where troops engaged suspected terrorists.
The attackers, who were reportedly moving in large numbers on motorcycles, were confronted by soldiers in a swift and coordinated response.
As a result, three terrorists were neutralised. Others fled under intense military pressure
The military attributed these successes to the deployment of additional troops, including specialised counter-terrorism units ordered by the Chief of Army Staff.
This reinforcement, according to authorities, has significantly improved response time and operational effectiveness across Plateau State.
