Kidnappers Abduct Corpse of Senior FRSC Officer, Mourners, Demand ₦50 Million Ransom
A heartbreaking tragedy has unfolded in Kogi State after armed men suspected to be kidnappers reportedly abducted the remains of a senior official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Deputy Corps Commander Augustine O. Ikwue, along with mourners escorting his corpse for burial.
The shocking incident reportedly occurred at about 6:00 p.m. on Thursday along the Ochadamu–Ejule Road in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to reports, the late Deputy Corps Commander died after a brief illness in Osogbo, Osun State, and his body was being conveyed to his hometown in Otukpo, Benue State, for burial when the convoy was ambushed by heavily armed men.
The attackers allegedly intercepted the vehicle conveying the corpse and abducted both the remains of the deceased officer and the mourners travelling with him.
Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that the kidnappers have since established contact with the family and are demanding a staggering ₦450 million ransom for the release of the abducted victims.
The bizarre incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns over the worsening security situation on highways linking Kogi and neighbouring states.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Kogi State Police Command, or other security agencies confirming the incident or the reported ransom demand.
If confirmed, the abduction of a deceased officer’s remains alongside mourners would rank among the most disturbing kidnapping incidents recorded in recent years, highlighting the growing audacity of criminal gangs operating on Nigeria’s highways.
Security operatives are expected to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and recover the remains of the late officer.
