The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has joined people around the world to commemorate International Women’s Day, applauding the vital role women play in advancing society.
In a statement released on Sunday, the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, praised the determination, strength and accomplishments of women, noting that they remain fundamental to the development of families, communities and the broader economy.
Oladejo said successive administrations led by the APC in Lagos State have consistently introduced policies and programmes aimed at empowering women and broadening opportunities for their participation in governance and economic activities.
According to him, Lagos continues to maintain a strong record of female representation within the public sector, with women occupying key positions such as commissioners, permanent secretaries, lawmakers, special advisers, heads of government agencies and judges of the High Court.
He noted that this reflects the party’s conviction that inclusive leadership enhances governance and leads to more effective policy making.
The APC spokesperson further stated that numerous women entrepreneurs, traders and artisans across the state have benefited from empowerment initiatives, including microcredit programmes, skills development training and cooperative support systems.
“These programmes have helped women operating in markets, small-scale enterprises and the creative sector to strengthen their businesses, improve household incomes and contribute to the overall growth of the state’s economy,” he said.
Oladejo added that the Lagos State government has also implemented policies focused on protecting women from abuse, expanding access to healthcare services and promoting education for the girl child.
He explained that women working in sectors such as agriculture, technology, education and the creative industry have equally benefited from targeted training, grants and innovation-driven support programmes aimed at boosting productivity and enterprise.
According to him, these efforts demonstrate the party’s continued commitment to promoting gender inclusion and empowering women as a critical component of sustainable development.
“As we mark International Women’s Day, the Lagos APC reiterates its dedication to policies that encourage women’s participation in governance, widen economic opportunities and ensure that every girl has the opportunity to realise her full potential,” he said.
The party also extended congratulations to women across Lagos State and Nigeria, acknowledging their resilience and significant contributions to national progress.
