The Federal Government has disbursed ₦5.12 billion in pension arrears to 90,689 retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), according to the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD).
The announcement was made in Abuja on Monday via a statement from the Head of Corporate Communications at PTAD, Mr Olugbenga Ajayi, who confirmed that the payments had been fully processed.
Ajayi said the disbursement spanned the four major pension departments and underscored the government’s continuing commitment to the welfare of its retired personnel.
A breakdown of the payments reveals that 8,626 retirees from the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, and Prisons Pension Department (CIPPD) received a total of ₦276,032 for one month’s arrears. Additionally, 9,681 pensioners under the Police Pension Department (PPD) were paid ₦619,584 covering two months of arrears.
In the Civil Service Pension Department (CSPD), 12,773 retirees received ₦408,736 as payment for one month, while 59,609 pensioners under the Parastatals Pension Department (PAPD) were allocated ₦3,814,976 for two months’ worth of arrears.
Ajayi reiterated that the payments are aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which includes timely settlement of outstanding pension entitlements. PTAD said the exercise reflects a broader strategy to ensure that pensioners receive their rightful benefits without undue delay.
