The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has called on motorists to strictly comply with traffic regulations as the state commences the second phase of rehabilitation on the Ogudu-Ifako Bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area.
According to LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the project will focus on restoring the bridge’s expansion joints inbound Lagos Island. The work, scheduled to run from August 19 to October 1, follows the completion and reopening of the first phase.
Bakare-Oki explained that diversions have been carefully designed to reduce disruptions and ease commuter movement. Motorists using the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and Lagos Toll Gate axis inbound Oshodi and Victoria Island will face controlled diversions at the bridge. Traffic flow will be restricted to a single lane about 50 metres before and after the construction zone.
He advised those heading towards Oshodi to use the Ojota Slip Road linking Ikorodu Road inbound Anthony, while motorists bound for Victoria Island can divert through Ojota Slip Road, connect to Ikorodu Road, proceed to Gbagada, and access the Third Mainland Bridge. Another alternative route is via Ikorodu Road inbound Funsho Williams Avenue, leading directly to Eko Bridge.
Motorists coming from Ikeja and nearby areas were advised to pass through Maryland, connect Ikorodu Road or Funsho Williams Avenue, and continue via Eko Bridge to Marina. Alternatively, they can link Ikorodu Road inbound Anthony to Oshodi for onward travel.
To ensure smooth movement, Bakare-Oki said LASTMA officers have been deployed to enforce lane discipline and respond to emergencies. He added that mini and heavy-duty towing vehicles, alongside other traffic management infrastructure, have been stationed along diversion routes to quickly clear breakdowns or accidents.
He appealed to road users for maximum cooperation, stressing that adherence to traffic advisories and instructions from LASTMA personnel would be crucial to maintaining order during the rehabilitation exercise.
