Morayo Afolabi-Brown Admits Past Criticisms of Peter Obi Were Out of Ignorance

Former television host and media personality, Morayo Afolabi-Brown, has openly admitted that her earlier criticisms of Labour Party’s presidential candidate and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, were made out of ignorance and limited knowledge of his track record in public office.

Speaking in a candid interview reported by Punch on Sunday, August 31, 2025, Afolabi-Brown—who gained nationwide prominence as the host of the popular talk show Your View on TVC—revealed that her views on Obi at the time were not informed by facts but by assumptions.

According to her, she came to a better understanding of Obi’s achievements only after members of the public reached out to correct her misperceptions.

In her words: “It was because I did not know him,” she admitted. “After I made that comment, people called me and said, ‘Morayo, do you realise that when he was governor, he actually served us? So that was him.’ I said, ‘Oh, I did not know.’”

This confession underscores the often sensitive relationship between media commentary and public perception, especially in a politically charged environment like Nigeria. Peter Obi, who ran for president in the 2023 general elections under the Labour Party, has consistently been praised for his prudent governance style during his tenure as governor of Anambra State, where he prioritized infrastructure development, education, and fiscal discipline.

Afolabi-Brown’s admission has sparked conversations on social media, with many Nigerians applauding her honesty and others highlighting it as a reminder of the need for journalists and media personalities to verify records before making critical judgments on political figures.

Her remarks also come at a time when Obi continues to play a prominent role in Nigeria’s political landscape, positioning himself as a voice of accountability and governance reform.
