Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has assured that no local government area in the state has been completely overrun by bandits, stating that proactive security measures are preventing further escalation of violence.

He made this known during a rare and impactful media chat with journalists, bloggers, publishers, and influencers at the Twin Theater, New Government House, Little Rayfield. The interactive session aimed to strengthen government-media relations and foster transparency.

Governor Mutfwang praised the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau Bloggers Association, Independent Publishers, and social media influencers for their patriotic contributions. He emphasized the importance of using media platforms to build and not destroy society.

The governor recounted that just two days after assuming office on May 29, 2023, he convened a Security Council meeting—the first in almost a year. He said this early move demonstrated the administration’s commitment to addressing insecurity head-on.

He explained that despite threats in certain areas like Wase and Kanam, bandits have not taken full control of any local government. He credited improved intelligence and military collaboration for the containment of violent activities in the state.

Mutfwang also pointed to the revitalization of Operation Rainbow, Plateau’s local security outfit, as a support system to federal forces. While some have raised concerns about its performance, he maintained that the outfit’s contributions are visible and will be further strengthened.

“There are no local governments in Plateau that are completely taken over by bandits,” he noted, contrasting the state’s relative stability with some parts of North Central and North West Nigeria.
“We are not in office for political games. We are here to deliver.”

Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, lauded the Governor’s openness, describing it as a model of inclusive governance. She said the ministry has adopted the same transparent approach through media tours and regular updates on projects.

“This administration has created an enabling environment that is attracting investors to the state,” she said, referencing major investments in the hospitality sector and upcoming projects like Chocolate City and market redevelopment.

Chairperson of NUJ Plateau State, Ayuku Pwaspo, described the media chat as timely, given the state’s security concerns. He praised the Governor’s empathy for affected communities and commitment to development amid the challenges.

“We commend your achievements and are proud that even the President acknowledged your leadership in Benue,” he added.

Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Gyang Bere, moderated the chat, thanking the Governor for his candor. He noted that even some government officials are unaware of the full scale of projects ongoing under the Mutfwang administration.

The session ended with renewed commitment from both government and media stakeholders to collaborate in promoting peace, development, and responsible journalism across Plateau State.
