Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has issued a strong warning to President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that he is ready for a political showdown over what he described as attempts to silence opposition voices.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, April 4, the governor accused the APC-led federal government of using state institutions to target individuals who refuse to join the ruling party.

“If they don’t stop, we are prepared to declare a war. We will not keep quiet any longer,” Mohammed said.

He further alleged that agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the judiciary are being deployed to intimidate political opponents.

According to him, the federal government believes it can “use the courts and the EFCC to prosecute Nigerians who are not in their party.”

“I Won’t Be Criminalized”
Reaffirming his stance, the governor made it clear that he would not bow to political pressure or defect to the APC.

“I will not allow anybody to criminalize me because I refuse to join their party,” he added.

Political Tension Rising

Mohammed’s comments come amid growing political friction between opposition figures and the federal government, raising concerns about the independence of key institutions and the state of Nigeria’s democracy.

Observers say such strong rhetoric could further heat up the political atmosphere as the country gradually moves toward the 2027 elections.
