
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, recently welcomed the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zaria unit to discuss collaboration and professional development opportunities for local journalists. The visit focused on ways to enhance journalistic skills and promote accurate, high-quality reporting on the university’s activities.
During the meeting, ABU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ahmed Adamu, emphasized the strategic partnership between the university and the media. He encouraged journalists to highlight the university’s notable achievements, including its improved global ranking and the recent N500 million JAMB Mega Prize, noting that these successes were not widely reported.
Prof. Adamu invited the NUJ to submit a formal request detailing the types of training they would like to receive, assuring that the university would make proper arrangements to support their professional growth.
The NUJ Zaria Chairman, Malam Sagir Awwal, praised ABU for its academic excellence and contributions to national development. He highlighted the strong working relationship between the university and journalists and expressed optimism for a more productive collaboration moving forward.
Awwal stressed the importance of routine training and retraining to keep journalists’ skills sharp, urging ABU to continue organizing programs that enhance media professionalism in the region.
