Obidient Movement Rejects ADC’s Ultimatum to Peter Obi, Demands Fairness Ahead of 2027
The Obidient Movement has strongly rejected what it described as an “ultimatum” issued by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) asking Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, to formally resign from his current party and join the ADC ahead of the 2027 polls.
In a statement signed by Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, the group expressed concern over the ADC’s sudden shift in position despite earlier agreements that had already seen Obi align with the coalition after the Anambra governorship election.
“His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi aligned with the coalition’s position after the Anambra State Governorship Election, extending to the 2027 General Elections. This adoption and pronouncement were made publicly by the party. We are therefore concerned as to why the resolution is now being altered midway into the agreement,” the statement read.
The Movement stressed that Obi, known for wide consultations before major political decisions, would not be rushed or railroaded into making hasty commitments.
Equity and Zoning Concerns
One of the key issues raised by the Obidient Movement is the zoning of the ADC presidential ticket. The group emphasized that since the presidency is currently in the South, fairness, equity, and inclusivity must guide the party’s decisions if it hopes to win in 2027.
They also questioned how the party intends to share principal offices within the coalition, insisting that only a just and transparent arrangement would allow them to mobilize supporters effectively across the country.
“Obi Not Desperate”
Reaffirming Peter Obi’s political philosophy, the statement stressed that his ambition is not driven by desperation for power but by a mission to fix Nigeria.
“It must be emphasized that H.E. Peter Obi is not desperate to be President of Nigeria. His ultimate mission is to see Nigeria work — to lift people out of poverty, to improve the economy, education, healthcare, and security,” the group said.
The Obidient Movement warned that any attempt to sideline fairness and transparency in the coalition’s internal processes could undermine unity and electoral strength ahead of 2027.
